Discover the Heart of Europe — with a Local Twist

Mission Statement

At HungaryUnlocked.com, our mission is simple: to show you Hungary the way locals actually live it. Through storytelling, personal anecdotes, and insider tips, we unlock the country’s quirks, flavors, and treasures. Whether you have Hungarian roots, you’re planning your first visit, or you’re just curious about this corner of Europe, we invite you to join the ride.

Our Story

HungaryUnlocked.com was born in 2023 out of one man’s inbox. That man is Zoltán Pukli, a Budapest native who suddenly realized he had become the unofficial TripAdvisor for all his international friends. “Where should I drink pálinka?” “Do I need a speedo for Széchenyi?” “Which ruin bar won’t rip me off?” The questions never stopped — so he built a platform to share the answers with the world.

Zoltán’s passion is rooted in real life: he’s as likely to be found eating lángos at a market hall as sipping craft cocktails on a rooftop. His goal? To strip away the tourist clichés and give readers a genuine, witty, and sometimes cheeky look at Hungary.

  • Zoltán Pukli – Founder, digital marketer by trade, storyteller by choice, padel addict by accident.
  • Contributors & Writers – A small, diverse team who live, eat, and breathe Hungary. Some are foodies, some are history buffs, some are just really good at finding hidden bars.
  • Food Enthusiasts – Because no Hungarian journey is complete without goulash, chimney cake, or a questionable late-night lángos.

Our Responsibility

We keep things real:

  • We test everything ourselves – from thermal baths to ruin pubs, if we recommend it, we’ve done it.
  • No paid bias – we use affiliate links to keep the site running, but commissions don’t affect our opinions.
  • Evidence-based content – if we quote facts, you’ll find the source.
  • Eco-conscious – we support sustainable tourism and local communities.
