On February 17, 2024, the quaint town of Túrkeve will once again become the focal point for tradition enthusiasts as it hosts the 16th Kevi Butchers’ Meet. This event, deeply rooted in the rich tapestry of Hungarian culture, offers a unique window into the traditional practices of pig slaughtering, completely free of charge.

A Day Dedicated to Reviving the Essence of Traditional Pig Slaughtering

Experience the Art of Butchery

From the initial cut to the final stages of sausage filling, attendees will have the opportunity to witness the entire process of meat processing. The event is a culinary delight, with continuous tastings of dishes prepared by the participating butchers, including onion-fried blood, sausages, liverwurst, pork soup, cabbage stew, and more.

As in previous years, uniform tents will be provided for each team, with separate fenced areas designated for slaughtering and processing, ensuring an authentic and immersive experience for all.

Feast and Festivities

The festival goes beyond butchery, promising a day filled with pork roasting, pálinka tasting, music, and dancing, evoking the true spirit of traditional pig feasts. A central event tent will host related cultural and musical programs throughout the day, culminating in a communal dinner in the evening where traditional dishes and homemade pastries will be served, celebrating the hard work of the butchers and their teams.

Event Schedule:

  • 7:00 AM: The Butchers’ Meet officially begins, with teams setting up from the day before and starting preparations at dawn.
  • From 6:00 AM to Evening: Live music by the popular Abonyi Party Band.
  • 11:00 AM: Performance by Farkas Rozika and the Hakme Gypsy Band.
  • 2:00 PM: Awards Ceremony.
  • 3:00 PM: Kristóf Karapancsev.
  • 4:00 PM: Tibi Ruszó.
  • 5:00 PM: Nótár Mary.
