(II) Safety in Hungary for Solo Travelers

Hungary and Budapest are generally very safe. The main risk is pickpocketing in busy areas (public transport, markets, train stations). Always watch your valuables!

For Women: Generally a very friendly place. At night, stick to well-lit, busy areas. District VII (Jewish Quarter) is popular and feels safe. The outer parts of District VIII may require more caution after dark.

For Men: Be wary of "friendly invitations" to unknown bars (risk of scams!). Watch your drink. Avoid conspicuously displaying valuables.

Common Scams: Taxis (use an app, e.g., Bolt!), restaurant overcharging (ask for a menu with prices!), money exchange (only at official places!), BKK ticket inspection (always validate!).

Important Phone Numbers: General emergency: 112. Always carry your ID.
