  12. Practical Tips for Budapest Hotel Bars

A hotel bar lets you into one of Budapest’s palace buildings for the price of a drink, no room booking needed. Several of the city’s grand hotels run bars that take public bookings, from an Art Nouveau cocktail bar in the Gresham Palace to a Freemasons’ former meeting hall. Compared with the Jewish Quarter’s bars, you get a grander room and, at several of them, live music.

This guide sticks to indoor, lobby and courtyard bars. The rooftops have their own guide (see the box below), and every bar here is one a non-guest can visit.

For the view instead. If the skyline is the point of the evening, the rooftop bar guide compares eleven terraces. Several of them sit on hotels, including High Note SkyBar on the Aria Hotel, facing the Basilica dome. The Duchess on the Matild Palace has its own review.

The Nine: Budapest Hotel Bars Worth a Drink

1. MÚZSA: Art Nouveau Cocktails at the Four Seasons Gresham Palace

Why go: MÚZSA calls itself Budapest’s first Art Nouveau luxury craft cocktail bar. It sits inside the Gresham Palace on Széchenyi István tér. For more on the music side, our live music guide covers MÚZSA among the city’s music rooms.

What to order: the signature list is called FEEL and runs in three chapters, Contact, Connection and Grounded. Welcome Home mixes Michter’s bourbon with Unicum Riserva, pear and rosemary for 8,900 HUF ($27.5), and most of the other signatures, such as Pure Imagination, First Kiss and Hope, cost 7,900 HUF ($24.5). Chosen comes in a “To Share” version for 15,900 HUF (~$49). The kitchen sends out Japanese-style shared plates.

The room: staff uniforms are by Boglárka Bódis of Maison Elysian, and afternoon tea is served on Herend. A series it calls Live Musings brings in local artists; check MÚZSA’s Happenings page for what is on.

Good to know: a 15% service charge is added to the bill, and VAT is already in the menu prices. The menu page prints a “$” sign next to its prices but states that all prices are in Hungarian forints, so read them as HUF. Open: daily 11:00 to midnight. Dress code: smart sophisticated, with no sportswear, sandals, flip-flops or slippers. Booking: online through the OpenTable form on MÚZSA’s site, or +36 1 268 5120. Where: Széchenyi István tér 5-6, 1051 Budapest. muzsa.com

2. Blue Fox The Bar: Weekend Music at the Kempinski

Why go: Blue Fox is the ground-floor bar of the Kempinski Hotel Corvinus on Erzsébet tér, with a patio on the square. On Friday a resident DJ plays and on Saturday a live band takes the mini-stage, so the weekend is the time to go.

What to order: cocktails run from the Jasmine Fizz at 4,900 HUF ($15) through the Moshi Moshi and Cherry Seedling at 5,600 HUF ($17.5) to an Old Fashioned at 8,200 HUF (~$25.5). The Foxstar Martini and Apricot Harvest sit in between.

The room: the Kempinski redesigned the bar in November 2024 after 11 years of operation, around a “cycle of life” theme, and gave it a new logo.

Good to know: Blue Fox does not print a service charge on its site, so check the menu before you pay. Open: daily 17:30 to 01:00. Dress code: casual. Booking: on the Blue Fox reservation page or +36 1 429 4499. Where: Erzsébet tér 7-8, 1051 Budapest. bluefoxthebar.com

3. The St. Regis Bar: A New Palace Bar on Váci utca

Why go: The St. Regis Budapest opened in April 2026, per Marriott’s own release, inside the Klotild Palace. Princess Klotild commissioned the building as one of a pair of twin palaces at the turn of the 20th century, to designs by the architects Flóris Korb and Kálmán Giergl. The St. Regis Bar is the hotel’s bar, and Marriott pitches it as a place for evening drinks, live music and bespoke cocktails.

What to order: the house Bloody Mary, which the opening release calls The Crown Mary, made with Hungarian flavors. The bar does not publish its prices online.

The room: the bar counter is framed by a large glass mural of the Opera House orchestra.

Good to know: the hours vary by night. Open: Sunday to Thursday 16:00 to midnight, Friday and Saturday 16:00 to 01:00. Dress code: smart casual. Booking: through SevenRooms, via “Find a Table” on Marriott’s dining page, or +36 1 866 3708. Where: Váci utca 34, 1052 Budapest.

4. Bar Henry: Cocktails That Tell the Story of Párisi Udvar

Why go: Bar Henry sits inside the Párisi Udvar Hotel, once a luxury shopping arcade, and is named after the building’s architect, Henrik Schmahl. The building reopened as a five-star hotel in 2019 after more than 85,000 hours of restoration.

What to order: each signature cocktail is tied to a chapter of the building’s history, and all of them cost 6,990 HUF (~$21.5). The Bar Henry Signature is Bulleit bourbon with lemon, honey, pear and cinnamon, clarified with lactose-free milk. Crystal Heritage pairs Stauning rye with elderflower, lime cordial and violet, and Treasury After Midnight mixes mezcal, cold brew and cherry. Banker’s Dream and Belle Époque are among the other signatures on a list of ten.

The room: the bar’s draw is the hotel around it, an Art Nouveau arcade of iron, glass and mosaic under a glass dome.

Good to know: the bar opens at noon, so it works as an afternoon stop too. Open: Sunday to Thursday 12:00 to midnight, Friday and Saturday 12:00 to 01:00. Booking: through Bar Henry’s booking page, or +36 70 702 4088. Where: Párisi Udvar Hotel, Petőfi Sándor utca 2-4, 1052 Budapest. Bar Henry

5. Bar HUSO: The Kimpton BEM’s Bar on the Buda Side

Why go: Bar HUSO is a Marcel Wanders-designed underwater fantasy of a room at the Kimpton BEM on Bem József tér, and the only bar on this list on the Buda side. It opens at 10:30, earlier than any other bar here, and runs until midnight every day.

What to order: the signature Bitter Harmony, Unicum Riserva with sweet and dry vermouth and orange bitters, at 5,690 HUF (~$17.5). The full list, classics with a twist included, is a PDF on huso.hu.

The room: the name comes from the Beluga sturgeon, Huso huso. If you want the view as well, the same hotel has a rooftop: our feNNen Skybar review covers it.

Good to know: a discretionary 15% service charge is added to the bill, as printed on the drinks list. Open: Monday to Sunday 10:30 to midnight. Booking: table reservations through SevenRooms on huso.hu, or +36 30 437 0067. Where: Bem József tér 3, 1027 Budapest. huso.hu

Source: Bar HUSO and Kimpton BEM Budapest, read on 27 October 2026.

6. W Lounge: DJ Sets on Andrássy út

Why go: the W Budapest’s lounge is the DJ pick, with local DJs and late-night DJ sets on Andrássy út. From May to September a seasonal terrace adds a view of the Opera House.

What to order: the W does not publish its lounge prices online, so ask for the cocktail list at the bar.

The room: downstairs, the W runs a second bar, Society25, a speakeasy styled on the cafés of the city’s old intellectuals, with a short list of cocktails themed on historical eras.

Good to know: the terrace opens from May to September only. Open: daily 12:00 to midnight. Dress code: smart casual. Booking: through SevenRooms, or +36 70 529 7096. Where: Andrássy út 25, 1061 Budapest.

7. Le Bar: An After-Dinner Drink at the Corinthia

Why go: Le Bar is the Corinthia Budapest’s bar, pitched for the drink after dinner. “Lounging is an art, and one we have perfected at Le Bar,” the hotel says.

What to order: the Corinthia links Le Bar’s drinks menu from its bar page; check it for the current list.

The room: a lounge bar off the Corinthia’s lobby, with food served until 23:00.

Good to know: the last food order is at 22:30. Open: daily 12:00 to midnight. Booking: +36 1 479 4880. Where: Erzsébet körút 43-49, 1073 Budapest.

8. The Great Hall: A Freemasons’ Hall at the Mystery Hotel

Why go: the story. The Hungarian Freemasons built this building in the 19th century, and the Great Hall was once their secret meeting room, designed in an Egyptian style. The Mystery Hotel opened in the building in 2019, and the hall is now its restaurant, with a cocktail bar and premium drinks inside it.

What to order: the signature list, The Things We Remember, runs from childhood to freedom; Freedom is pisco, vanilla, elderflower tonic and pear foam at 6,100 HUF (~$19).

The room: the hall is the hotel’s restaurant, and with a 22:00 close it suits a drink before or after dinner rather than a late night.

Good to know: plan for an early evening, since last drinks are at 21:30. Open: daily 12:00 to 22:00; food orders until 21:00 and drinks until 21:30. Booking: through OpenTable, or +36 70 810 5766. Where: Podmaniczky utca 45, 1064 Budapest. mysteryhotelbudapest.com

Source: Mystery Hotel Budapest and its Great Hall page, read on 27 October 2026.

9. Aria Music Garden: Live Music Every Night

Why go: the Aria Hotel’s courtyard Music Garden has live music every night from 19:00 to 22:00, and the hotel says outright that its guests and visitors alike can enjoy cocktails and refreshments there.

What to order: cocktails, or a full dinner: the Supper Serenade dinners run with the evening music.

The room: a courtyard inside the hotel, with High Note SkyBar on the same building’s roof for later.

Good to know: the 16:00 to 18:00 wine and cheese is a perk for hotel guests, not a public event. Open: live music nightly 19:00 to 22:00. Booking: Supper Serenade dinners book through OpenTable. Walk-in: visitors are welcome for drinks. Where: Hercegprímás utca 5, 1051 Budapest. ariahotelbudapest.com

Practical Tips for Budapest Hotel Bars

  • Dress codes. Smart casual covers most of this list. MÚZSA has the strictest stated code, asking for smart sophisticated dress and ruling out sportswear, sandals, flip-flops and slippers. Blue Fox is the most relaxed, with a casual code.
  • Service charge. The szervízdíj is a printed line on a Budapest bill, not a tip habit. MÚZSA, Bar HUSO and the Great Hall all add 15%. For the others, read the bottom of the menu before you add a tip.
  • Booking. All nine name a public booking route, through OpenTable, SevenRooms, their own booking page or a phone line. A booking matters most on Friday and Saturday nights and for the live-music evenings.
  • Walk-ins. The Aria’s Music Garden is the one bar here that says visitors are welcome for drinks. Elsewhere only a booking makes sure of a seat. Plan around the closing times too: the Great Hall serves its last drinks at 21:30.
  • Pair it with dinner. For a hotel bar with a serious grill attached, Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill at the Dorothea Hotel keeps its bar open late. For standalone cocktail bars, the cocktail bar guide covers the city’s speakeasies and award-winners.

Prices are in HUF. Converted at 1 USD = 324 HUF, the ECB rate on 15 October 2026. Rates move, so treat the converted figures as indicative.

Good to know

Can I drink at a Budapest hotel bar if I am not staying at the hotel?

Yes. All nine name a public booking route through their own sites, a booking platform or by phone, and the Aria Hotel says outright that its guests and visitors can both enjoy cocktails in the Music Garden. Some hotel perks are for guests only, such as the Aria's afternoon wine and cheese, so read the wording before you plan around one.

What should I wear to a hotel bar in Budapest?

Smart casual covers most of them. The St. Regis Bar and W Lounge state smart casual, Blue Fox states casual, and MÚZSA asks for smart sophisticated dress with no sportswear, sandals, flip-flops or slippers. If one outfit has to work everywhere, make it neat trousers and a proper shirt or top.

Is there a service charge at Budapest hotel bars?

Often, and it is printed on the menu rather than added as a tip habit. MÚZSA, Bar HUSO and the Great Hall each add 15% to the bill. Read the bottom of each menu before you work out a tip.

Which Budapest hotel bar has live music?

Blue Fox The Bar has a resident DJ on Friday and a live band on Saturday. The Aria Hotel's Music Garden has live music every night from 19:00 to 22:00. W Lounge runs DJ sets, and MÚZSA hosts local artists in a series it calls Live Musings.

Do I need to book?

Only the Aria says outright that visitors can drop in for drinks; for the rest, a booking is the way to be sure of a seat on a Friday or Saturday night. MÚZSA and the Mystery Hotel's Great Hall book through OpenTable, Bar HUSO, W Lounge and the St. Regis Bar through SevenRooms, and Blue Fox and Bar Henry through their own booking pages or by phone.
