Beyond Budapest
Day trips from Budapest are step one; the rest of Hungary is where locals actually spend their summers.
This is everything outside the capital: Lake Balaton and its villages, small towns worth a detour, and the practical side of moving around the country by train or rental car. The country-wide basics live here too, like tipping and the local rules of politeness.
Most Hungary content online stops at the Budapest city limits. Ours does not, because we grew up with the rest of the country and it deserves better than a footnote.
Start with the Balaton guides if it is summer. Otherwise the train guide is the unlock: low effort, scenic, and it turns a surprising amount of the country into a day trip.
