Bükfürdő Thermal & Spa works best as the main event of a day in western Hungary. You can settle into the thermal pools, move to the adventure area with children, or make time for the separate sauna zone. Choose the part of the complex you actually want to use before choosing a ticket, and leave sightseeing for another morning if you want a full day in the water.

Bükfürdő is purpose-built for long, relaxed days in the water. Its medicinal pools are the anchor, while the adventure and children’s areas give families a real alternative to spending every hour in a hot pool.

A thermal day in western Hungary
Bükfürdő lies in Vas County in western Hungary. Its thermal water was discovered during drilling in 1957 and received medicinal classification in 1965. Today, the bath, adventure area and separate Sauna World let you shape the day around bathing, family time or sauna sessions.
Thermal bathing and medical treatments
Bükfürdő’s mineral-rich water is central to the spa, but planning a treatment course is different from buying a day ticket. For a leisure visit, choose pools by their posted temperature and admission rules and take breaks between baths. Arrange any medical treatment with the spa’s clinical team rather than treating a pool ticket as a prescription.
Bükfürdő or Sárvár? A Useful Comparison
The two towns are 26 km apart, about twenty-five minutes of driving, and from Budapest they are effectively the same trip: 211 km to Bük, 209 km to Sárvár, both about two and a half hours. Their strengths are different enough to make the choice straightforward.

Both baths offer family facilities as well as thermal bathing. Compare the ticket inclusions, the journey and how late you want to stay; mineral concentration alone does not decide which day you will enjoy more. With a longer stay, give each bath its own day.

Peak means every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, plus holiday and summer periods. Rates valid from 19 December 2025 until revoked, per the official price list. Checked 31 July 2026, and worth re-checking before a 200 km drive.
Prices are in HUF, which is what you pay at the counter. Converted at 1 USD = 315 HUF, the ECB rate on 6 August 2026. Rates move, so treat the converted figures as indicative.
Set that against Budapest, where our thermal bath price comparison has Széchenyi at 13,200 HUF on a weekday. Bük is roughly half the money and puts the emphasis on the spa’s highly mineralized water; Széchenyi offers historic architecture and much easier access from central Budapest.
Children under three need a 100 HUF ticket. It is a token charge, but families should still include the child when buying admission.

What’s Inside: The Three Zones
The medicinal and beach bath. The heart of the complex, with thermal pools at graduated temperatures indoors and outdoors, plus the seasonal beach section in summer. This is the quieter side of Bükfürdő, suited to an unhurried soak or a treatment-focused visit.
The adventure bath. Indoor slides, an adventure pool, a jacuzzi and the children’s shark cave (Cápabarlang) give families plenty of variety. The covered areas are useful in cooler weather too.
Sauna World. This separate area is textile-free and welcomes guests aged 14 and over. Bring a towel and check the infusion program before planning your pool day.
The adult sauna supplement is 3,200 HUF in the lower tariff band and 3,600 HUF at peak times. If you plan to use several cabins or join an infusion, it can earn its place in the budget; if not, the plain bath ticket covers the thermal, adventure and beach areas. How Do You Get to Bükfürdő from Budapest?
From Budapest, allow roughly two and a half hours each way by car. Check the route and motorway vignette before leaving. For public transport, plan the journey all the way to Bükfürdő, including the connection from Bük station to the bath, using the MÁV planner. An overnight stay gives you more time in the water and makes a visit to Kőszeg or Sárvár easier to fit in.

How to plan your day at Bükfürdő
For a family visit, start with the adventure and children’s areas so everyone understands where they can swim and play. The medicinal pools and Sauna World have separate age rules; a child’s admission ticket does not mean access to every pool. Use the pool map to choose your starting area instead of trying to work through the entire complex.
If the sauna is your priority, choose the combined ticket and look at the session timetable before settling into a pool. For a quieter bathing day, the ordinary bath ticket leaves room in the budget for a meal afterward. Bring a towel and footwear for moving between the indoor and outdoor sections.
The afternoon ticket makes sense when you are already staying nearby. From Budapest, compare the outward and return journeys before choosing it: a lower admission price is less compelling if most of your day is spent traveling. Save restaurant plans in Bük for after the bath unless your ticket explicitly allows you to leave and return.
Kőszeg or Sárvár: what to add nearby
Kőszeg is the walking-and-history choice. Start with Jurisics Castle and continue through the old town. Put the castle on a separate morning if you want to go inside, then leave the rest of that day open for lunch and wandering. It is a better companion to a long soak than another tightly timed attraction.
Sárvár gives you a different second day. The Nádasdy Ferenc Museum is inside Nádasdy Castle, with decorated rooms and a hussar collection. Visit the town for that change of pace; if you also want its thermal bath, give it its own day rather than paying for two large spas in one afternoon.
Both towns involve another journey from Bükfürdő. Choose one for a short break, and check the museum’s opening day before setting the order of your trip.

Adult bath entry is 6,550 HUF Monday to Thursday outside the listed peak periods and 7,650 HUF during peak periods. Children aged 3 to 14 pay 3,200-3,500 HUF, students aged 14 to 19 and pensioners pay 4,500-5,000 HUF, and a family ticket for two adults and one child is 13,400-16,000 HUF. Bath plus sauna runs 9,750-11,250 HUF. These rates have been in force since 19 December 2025. The pensioner discount requires the card issued by the Hungarian State Treasury’s Pension Payment Directorate (Magyar Államkincstár Nyugdíjfolyósító Igazgatóság).
What are Bükfürdő's opening hours?
The bath and sauna are open 9:00 to 20:00, Monday through Sunday. Medical Wellness runs 9:15 to 17:00 Monday to Thursday and 9:15 to 18:30 Friday to Sunday. The spa's own site notes that hours can differ from the published schedule, so check before a long drive.
Can you visit Bükfürdő as a day trip from Budapest?
It is roughly 211 km and almost two and a half hours each way by car. An overnight stay gives you time to enjoy the spa without rushing; the drive from Vienna is much shorter. If you only have a free afternoon in Budapest, a city bath is the easier choice.
Is the sauna area textile-free?
Yes. Sauna World follows the Central European convention: no swimsuit, towel required. Children under 14 are not admitted. If you prefer to spend the day in the pools, the plain bath ticket keeps the budget lower.
Can children use the medicinal pools?
No. Children under 14 cannot use the medicinal pools or the sauna world at all, and the bath cites a health ministry decree for it, with no prescription route and no supervised exception. The rest of the complex is open to them, including a dedicated children's area with its own pools and slides, and the price list sells a ticket from birth for 100 HUF.
