From Budapest: about 150 km, roughly 1 hour 30 minutes by car on the M1 towards Győr, then north through the Szigetköz. By public transport it is an InterCity to Győr and a regional bus to Lipót. Our verdict: a full summer day trip for a family, when the slides are running; outside the slide season it is a quieter soak that works best combined with Győr or an overnight.

Why Lipót Works When the Budapest Baths Are Full
Budapest’s thermal baths are legendary for good reason: the architecture at Gellért, the chess players at Széchenyi, the domed pools at Rudas. On a July Saturday they are also very busy, and a family trying to keep four people together in a crowd of visitors has a harder day than a couple does. Lipót is the other kind of bath: a village complex by the Danube, built around a family day out, with pools for small children, twenty slides and medicinal water for the adults.
Two Kinds of Day
A Budapest bath day is about grandeur and history in the middle of the city. A Lipót day is about space, slides and a Danube setting most visitors to Hungary never see. Neither is better; they answer different questions. If the question is “where can the kids spend six hours in the water while we get a turn in the warm pools,” Lipót is the easier answer.
Lipót vs Széchenyi and Rudas: The Prices Side by Side
Here is the Lipót vs Budapest price comparison, from each operator’s own price list. A Széchenyi daily ticket with a locker costs 13,200 HUF Monday to Thursday, 14,800 HUF Friday to Sunday and 15,800 HUF on holidays and in peak season. A Rudas daily ticket to all zones costs 12,000 / 15,000 / 16,000 HUF on the same three tiers. Lipót’s adult day ticket costs 6,400 HUF in the shoulder weeks and 7,000 HUF in high season, and the Lipót locker is free against a 1,000 HUF deposit. For a family of four the difference covers lunch several times over.
The Danube Riverside Setting
The Danube here is not a postcard. It’s a presence: wide, unhurried, green-grey. The bath sits in Lipót, in the Szigetköz, the island landscape between the branches of the Danube, where the flat Kisalföld plain meets the river. After a morning in the pools, the riverbank and the cycle paths are right there, in a village that has not been rebuilt around souvenir shops. For thermal baths near Budapest that feel different, the setting does a lot of the work.
Getting to Lipót: From Budapest and Northwestern Hungary
Lipót is easy by car, and possible by public transport with some patience. The bath is at Fő utca 84 in Lipót, in Győr-Moson-Sopron county, where the plains of northwestern Hungary meet the Danube.
Driving from Budapest: Route and Parking
The drive from Budapest to Lipót is about 150 kilometres, almost all of it motorway. Take the M1 west towards Győr, then follow the local roads north into the Szigetköz. Allow around 1 hour 30 minutes in normal traffic; the M1 slows on summer Friday afternoons, when half of Budapest seems to be heading west at once. As a day trip it works: leave by 8:00, arrive around 9:30, soon after the 9:00 opening, and drive home in the early evening. You need a motorway vignette (e-matrica) for the M1, bought online or at a petrol station before you join the motorway.
Train and Bus Options from Budapest
By public transport: InterCity trains run from Budapest-Keleti and Budapest-Kelenföld to Győr, and from Győr a regional bus continues to Lipót. Plan the whole journey in the MÁV timetable search or the MÁVPlusz app before you set out, since the bus leg runs less often than the train. For families with pushchairs, several children and a pile of beach bags, the car wins. For a solo traveller or a couple happy to work with timetables, the train and bus route is perfectly doable.
Getting There from Győr
From Győr, Lipót is about 30 kilometres north along the Danube. Győr is the natural base if you want to combine a bath day with a city visit, and a taxi from Győr is an option for those arriving by train who would rather skip the bus.
Parking at the Bath
Parking is part of the admission: the operator lists it among what the ticket includes, together with all the pools, the slides, the water park, the wave area, the playgrounds and the sauna.
The Adventure Side: Slides, Waves and the Water Playground
This is the part that turns Lipót into a full family day out. There are 20 slides on the site, counting the playground slides, including giant slides and newer racing slides, plus a wave area, a water playground with play features for children and adults, and a water elephant in the beach pool.
Slides and Thrill Attractions
The giant slides are included in the ticket. For 2026 the operator lists them for high season only, 20 June to 31 August, plus the weekend of 5-6 September. Outside those dates the slides are closed, so if they are the reason for the trip, go in July or August.
Waves and the Beach Pool
The wave area (the operator calls it the “hullámlabda” section) is part of the admission too. The beach pool is 30°C and runs from 0.15 m to 1.4 m deep, which makes it the easiest place for mixed ages to share the water. Like the slides, it opens for the high season.
Toddler and Small Children’s Pools
The children’s pool with a mini castle is 30°C and 0.3-0.6 m deep, built for the youngest bathers. The family and adventure pool is 32°C and 1.2-1.35 m deep. There is a water playground and, on dry land, playgrounds with slides and climbing frames.
Rules for Children
The rule to know before you pack: children under 14 may not use the medicinal pools unless they have a medical prescription, and they may not use the sauna either. Children’s tickets cover ages 6-14, and under-6s go in free. Check the operator’s published house rules for slide-specific requirements before the day.
One Ticket for Everything
There is no separate thermal ticket and waterpark ticket: the day ticket covers all the pools, the slides, the water park, the wave area, the playgrounds, the sauna and the parking. There is also an afternoon ticket from 14:00.
Pool Guide: Temperatures, Depths, and What Each Pool Offers
Here is each pool as the operator lists it.
| Pool | Temperature | Depth | Season |
|---|---|---|---|
| Medicinal pools (two) | 34°C and 38°C | 1.05 m | 16 May-30 September; check lipotfurdo.hu for the winter season dates |
| Family and adventure pool | 32°C | 1.2-1.35 m | 16 May-30 September |
| Children’s pool with mini castle | 30°C | 0.3-0.6 m | 16 May-30 September |
| Beach pool | 30°C | 0.15-1.4 m | 20 June-31 August 2026, plus 5-6 September |
| Swimming pool | 26-28°C | 1.90 m | 16 May-30 September |
Temperatures, depths and dates from lipotfurdo.hu, read 27 September 2026.
The Medicinal Pools
The two medicinal pools, at 34°C and 38°C, are the core of the thermal offer. The water comes from a well 2,200 metres deep at 65°C, and it was qualified as medicinal water in 2004. The operator describes it as a low-hardness, sodium hydrogen carbonate water containing fluoride.
The Swimming Pool
The swimming pool is cooler, 26-28°C, and 1.90 m deep: a pool for actual lengths rather than soaking.
When Each Part Is Open
The complex opens daily from 9:00 to 20:00 in the season from 16 May to 30 September 2026, the period the 2026 price list covers, with the slides, beach pool and water playground limited to the high season. When the slides close, the operator keeps the medicinal pools open until 30 September. For the winter season dates, check lipotfurdo.hu before you set off.
Ticket Prices and Packages
These are the operator’s 2026 prices. The lower price applies from 16 May to 19 June and in September, the higher one from 20 June to 31 August.

Family Tickets and Groups
The family ticket covers 2 adults and 1 child; each further child aged 6-14 adds 4,000 HUF (4,500 HUF in high season). Groups of 20 or more get 20% off admission in season.
Paying
The desk takes cash and bank cards, and also euro banknotes (no coins), with change given in forints. The SZÉP card is accepted only at the food outlets.
Season Passes
For locals or long stays there is a weekly pass (above) and a named season pass with unlimited entry at 400,000 HUF.
Extras
Lockers are free against a 1,000 HUF deposit. A deck chair costs 2,000 HUF in season.
Wellness at Lipót: Sauna, Massage and the Medicinal Water
Beyond the pools, Lipót has a sauna and a massage service. On a family day this side often gets skipped; on a couple’s visit it becomes the point.
Sauna and Massage
The Malom sauna is included in the day ticket; swimwear and a towel are compulsory inside, and under-14s may not use it. Massages are available from 1 June in the season: hot stone, connective tissue, reflexology and full-body treatments, booked by phone on the number the operator lists on its services page.
What the Water Is Known For
The operator describes the water as suitable for joint and rheumatic complaints. As with any medicinal water, it is a complement to treatment, not a replacement for it.
Who Should Skip the Hot Pools
Warm immersion is not for everyone. People with acute inflammation, fever, active skin infections, serious heart or circulatory conditions, or who are pregnant should ask their doctor before sitting in 38°C water. If in doubt, start in the cooler pools.
Practical Visitor Information: What to Bring and On-Site Facilities
Towels and Swimwear
There is no towel rental, so bring your own. If you forget, the on-site beach shop sells towels and swimwear.
Lockers
Lockers are free, with a 1,000 HUF deposit you get back when you return the key.
Pets
Animals are not allowed on the bath grounds, so plan the day without the dog.
Beyond the Pools
The site also has beach volleyball and football courts, aqua fitness at weekends in the beach pool, and, through the operator, fishing, canoe, kayak and motorboat trips, horse riding and cycle routes.
Insider Tips: Best Times
Weekday mornings are the calmest time to visit, and in high season arriving at the 9:00 opening gets you the first hours in the pools before the lunchtime crowd. September weekdays are quiet, and in 2026 the slides reopened for one last weekend on 5-6 September.
Eating and Drinking at the Complex
Food at Hungarian thermal complexes is built for convenience rather than culinary ambition, and that is fine: nobody drives to Lipót for the restaurant. The operator runs several outlets on site.
On-Site Food
There is a restaurant with Hungarian and international dishes all season, and in peak season a pizza corner (pizza and lángos), a grill corner, a büfé with hamburgers, hot sandwiches and hot dogs, a water bar with cocktails and ice cream, a café and patisserie, and a gyros stand. Cards and cash work, and the SZÉP card is accepted at the food outlets.
Where to Stay Near Lipót for an Overnight Trip
Lipót works as a day trip from Budapest, and it works even better as an overnight, especially in summer or combined with Győr.
Lipóti Termál Camping: Next Door to the Bath
Lipóti Termál Camping shares the bath’s address, right next to the pools. For 2026 it opens from 16 May to 30 September. In the shoulder weeks a tent pitch costs 7,000 HUF a night plus 7,600 HUF per adult and 4,300 HUF per child aged 6-14; in high season it is 7,800 HUF plus 8,600 HUF per adult and 4,500 HUF per child. It also lets mobile homes (from 45,000 HUF a night off-peak), wooden houses, guest rooms and a converted sleeping carriage. Tourist tax is 650 HUF per person per night on top.
Orchidea Hotel Lipót
Orchidea Hotel Lipót (Rákóczi utca 42-44) is the hotel option in the village: a wellness hotel with its own thermal pools, a restaurant and all-inclusive packages. Book directly with the hotel.
Booking Tips
Accommodation in and around Lipót fills up in July and August, particularly at weekends and around Hungarian public holidays. Book early for high season, or come in June or September, when prices on the camping list are lower and the pools are calmer.
Combining Lipót with a Győr Day Trip
Lipót sits about 30 kilometres from Győr, one of Hungary’s most underrated cities, so a morning in the pools and an afternoon in town is a format that actually works.
Sample Day: Lipót Morning + Győr Afternoon
Arrive at the 9:00 opening, spend three or four hours in the pools and on the slides, eat on site, and leave in the early afternoon. Drive to Győr, explore the Baroque old town and the riverside where the Rába meets the Mosoni-Duna, have dinner, then take the M1 back to Budapest or stay the night locally. The bath front-loads the rest, so the city afternoon feels easy.
Regional Thermal Bath Comparison: Lipót vs Mosonmagyaróvár
Flexum Thermal & Spa in Mosonmagyaróvár (Kolbai Károly utca 10) is the other big bath in the area: open daily from 8:00 to 20:00. Lipót’s advantage in summer is the slides and the family pools; outside the slide season, or for a wellness weekend, Flexum is worth a look.
Nearby Attraction: FUTURA in Mosonmagyaróvár
FUTURA, the interactive science centre in Mosonmagyaróvár (Szent István király út 142), fills an old granary with hands-on exhibits about water, earth, air and fire and the wildlife of the Szigetköz. Tickets cost 5,500 HUF for adults, 5,000 HUF for children, students under 26 and pensioners, and 19,000 HUF for a family of 2 adults and 2 children. It is a good rainy-day pair with a bath day.
Lipót Village and the Danube: Beyond the Baths
Lipót itself is small: a church, a few streets, the river. It is not going to compete with Budapest for an evening out. What it offers is a place that has not been reshaped around visitors: quiet, local, with a river most people drive past without stopping.
Danube Riverside Walks and Cycling Routes
The Szigetköz is flat and threaded with cycle routes, and the operator lists cycling among the activities you can combine with a bath day. EuroVelo 6, the long-distance route along the Danube, crosses the Szigetköz on its way from the Austrian border to Győr, so the local stretches are easy riding without specialist kit. For a wider view of cycling in the country, see our guide to cycling in Hungary.
Seasonal Programmes at the Complex
The bath announces new attractions and seasonal events on its own site and social media: in 2026 that meant the new racing slides and the water elephant in the beach pool, aqua fitness at weekends and the extra slide weekend in September.
