New Year's Eve Danube Cruise in Budapest 2026: Which Boats Sail, What They Cost, Where You Board
On this page
On a normal night a Danube cruise is a sightseeing trip with a drink in your hand. On 31 December it is something else: the one seat in Budapest where midnight happens all around you and none of it happens on top of you. The city launches its own fireworks from balconies, courtyards and embankments on both banks, and from the middle of the river you see every one of them at once.
What follows is every boat with a 2026 New Year’s Eve programme on sale on its operator’s own site, what each ticket actually buys, and how to choose between them. The short version: decide first whether you want the whole evening on the water or only midnight, because the two are different products at very different prices.

The boats at a glance
| Boat and operator | Boards | Back on shore | Price per person | Included |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Silverline dinner cruise (catamaran) | 19:00, sails 20:00 | 00:30 to 01:00 | €340 | Prosecco cocktail, 5-course dinner, midnight sparkling wine, piano bar |
| Silverline drinks cruise, early | 18:30, 20:00 or 21:30 | after 60 minutes | €70 | Unlimited drinks from the onboard menu |
| Silverline drinks cruise, midnight | 23:00 | after 90 minutes | €125 | Unlimited drinks from the onboard menu |
| Duna Cruises, Citadella | 22:30, sails 23:00 | 00:30 | €85 | Unlimited Prosecco, salty snacks, midnight toast at Parliament |
| Duna Cruises, Kisfaludy or Hableány paddle steamer | 23:00, sails 23:30 | 01:00 | €70 | Unlimited Prosecco, salty snacks, midnight toast at Parliament |
In dollars, at 1 USD = 320 HUF and 1 EUR = 365 HUF, the range runs from about 80 USD for the paddle steamers to about 388 USD for the dinner cruise.
The whole evening: Silverline’s dinner cruise
This is the one to book if you want New Year’s Eve solved in a single ticket. You board at 19:00 at Dock 11 on Jane Haining rakpart, the catamaran leaves at 20:00, and you are back between half past midnight and one o’clock.
The ticket covers a Prosecco cocktail on arrival, a five-course dinner and a glass of sparkling wine at midnight, with a pianist playing through the night. After a set amuse-bouche of pulled duck, every course is a choice: goose liver pâté with Tokaji Aszú or a pear and burrata salad to start, then mains from walnut-crusted cod to lamb rack, with gluten-free and vegan options marked throughout. After dinner the boat holds in front of the floodlit Parliament until midnight, and that is where the toast happens.
€340 a head. A window table costs €60 more, about 68 USD, and on this night it is the add-on worth paying for. A child ticket is €30 cheaper. Drinks beyond the welcome cocktail and the midnight glass are a separate package you can buy with the ticket or on board, so budget for it.
Who it suits: couples and families who want dinner, warmth and the view in one place, and nobody who wants to dance. A piano bar is a piano bar.

Only midnight: Duna Cruises’ Prosecco boats
The cleverer plan for many people: eat on land, then walk down to the river for the part of the night that matters. Duna Cruises sells exactly that, from Dock 10, next door to Silverline on the Pest side of Elisabeth Bridge.
You choose the boat, and the choice changes the night.
- Citadella, the modern one, €85 (about 97 USD). Boarding from 22:30, sailing at 23:00, back at Dock 10 at 00:30. It has a heated indoor cabin, a panorama deck and a VIP section.
- Kisfaludy or Hableány, the paddle steamers, €70 (about 80 USD). Boarding from 23:00, sailing at 23:30, back at 01:00. Both are period-faithful reconstructions of famous 19th-century Hungarian steamers, the Hableány rebuilt in 2007 and the Kisfaludy in 2014, with an open front deck and covered seating, and they are the more romantic choice.
Both include unlimited Prosecco, salty snacks (nuts and grissini), the night sightseeing route and a midnight toast in front of Parliament. Seating is first come, first served. Groups of four can email after booking to ask for their own table, and tables for two are limited, so a couple who wants privacy should arrive early rather than rely on it.
The fine print matters here. Duna Cruises recommends the programme for over-18s, sells only full-price tickets on this night (no discounts or promo codes), and refunds in full if you cancel at least 72 hours before departure.

A party with an open bar: Silverline’s drinks cruise
Silverline also runs a New Year’s Eve version of its unlimited-drinks boat, and its timing is the trap. Three sailings, at 18:30, 20:00 and 21:30, last 60 minutes each for €70. All three are back on shore well before midnight: they are a warm-up, not a countdown.
The one that covers midnight is the 23:00 sailing, 90 minutes, €125 (about 143 USD). The bar list is four Hungarian wines, Törley sparkling wine, three draught beers, soft drinks and coffee. Alcohol is served only to over-18s, there is no wheelchair access, and you can cancel up to 24 hours ahead for a full refund.

On a budget: the ordinary evening boat
If what you want is the lit-up river rather than the moment itself, Legenda’s regular evening sightseeing boats keep their winter timetable through 31 December, from Dock 7 on the same embankment. Adult tickets are €20 on the Duna Bella and €25 on the Danube Legend, children aged 10 to 14 pay €14 or €17.50, and under-10s ride free. The last departure is 21:00, so this is the early-evening view, not midnight.

What you will actually see at midnight
Budapest has no official New Year’s Eve fireworks. The state display is on 20 August; on 31 December the show is private, launched by residents across the city, and a city decree in force since December 2025 limits where they can legally do it. Our New Year’s Eve guide covers the rules, and the midnight weather.
From the water that private chaos becomes the best view in town. You see both banks at once, Buda Castle and Gellért Hill on one side and the Pest embankment on the other, and the river doubles every rocket. All the midnight boats hold near Parliament for the countdown, so expect company on the water.
Two practical things decide whether you enjoy it:
- Be outside at midnight. A cabin window shows you a slice; the deck shows you the city. A moving boat in the last minutes of December is cold, so dress for standing still on an open deck, not for a restaurant.
- The window table only matters for dinner. On the dinner cruise you spend four hours seated, and the window is your view. For the midnight minutes, go out on deck.
How to choose
- You want one booking for the whole night, and dinner matters: Silverline’s dinner cruise, with the window table.
- You want dinner on land and midnight on the river: Duna Cruises. Take a paddle steamer for atmosphere, the Citadella if you want a heated cabin to retreat to.
- You are going out afterwards anyway: the Citadella and Silverline’s 23:00 drinks cruise are both back at 00:30, which leaves the rest of the night free.
- You want a party with an open bar: Silverline’s 23:00 drinks cruise, not the early ones.
- You are travelling with children and want midnight on the water: the dinner cruise is the only midnight programme here with a child ticket. For an early-evening look at the lights, Legenda’s sightseeing boats take children too.
Booking and getting there
Book now if the date is fixed. Both programmes were on sale on 3 October with prices published, and the refund terms above make early booking cheap insurance.
Check the dock number. Docks 10 and 11 are neighbours on Jane Haining rakpart, by the Pest end of Elisabeth Bridge, and in a dark, crowded embankment it is easy to queue at the wrong one. Arrive at boarding time, not departure time.
Plan the trip home before you board. Our New Year’s Eve guide covers night transport and taxis, our Danube cruise guide covers the rest of the year’s boats, and the New Year’s Day guide covers what is open the morning after.

Good to know
Which boats run a New Year's Eve cruise in Budapest in 2026?
Two operators have a 31 December 2026 programme published and on sale on their own sites. Silverline Cruises runs a five-hour New Year's Eve dinner cruise and a separate unlimited-drinks cruise from Dock 11 on Jane Haining rakpart. Duna Cruises runs a 90-minute midnight Prosecco cruise on three boats, the modern Citadella and the reconstructed paddle steamers Kisfaludy and Hableány, from Dock 10 next door. Legenda's ordinary evening sightseeing boats also run on 31 December, but its timetable stops at 21:00 and it lists no midnight sailing.
How much does a New Year's Eve Danube cruise cost in Budapest?
From €70 to €340 per person for 2026. Duna Cruises charges €70 on its paddle steamers and €85 on the Citadella, unlimited Prosecco and snacks included. Silverline's drinks cruise is €70 for an early 60-minute sailing and €125 for the 90-minute midnight one. Silverline's five-hour dinner cruise is €340, with a window table at €60 extra and a child ticket €30 cheaper. Duna Cruises sells full-price tickets only on 31 December, so no discounts apply.
Can you see fireworks from a Danube cruise on New Year's Eve?
Yes, but not a show. Budapest has no official New Year's Eve display, so what you see from the river is private fireworks launched across both banks around midnight. On the water you get the whole spread at once, reflected in the river, with nobody launching anything next to you. Duna Cruises calls it unofficial fireworks viewing on its own programme, which is the accurate description. The organised display with a published start time is on 20 August.
Where do New Year's Eve cruises depart from in Budapest?
Both operators with a 2026 programme board on the Pest bank at Jane Haining rakpart, by Elisabeth Bridge: Silverline from Dock 11 and Duna Cruises from Dock 10. The two piers sit next to each other and the signs are easy to mix up in the dark, so check the dock number on your ticket before you join a queue. Legenda's sightseeing boats leave from Dock 7 on the same embankment.
When should I book a New Year's Eve cruise in Budapest?
Now, if the timing suits you. Both programmes for 31 December 2026 were already bookable on 3 October, with prices published. Seating on the Duna Cruises boats is first come, first served and tables for two are limited, while Silverline sells window tables as a paid add-on, so the earlier you book, the more choice you have. Duna Cruises refunds in full if you cancel at least 72 hours before departure, and Silverline's drinks cruise refunds up to 24 hours ahead, so booking early costs little flexibility on those two.
Can children go on a New Year's Eve cruise in Budapest?
On the dinner cruise, yes. Silverline sells a child ticket for its New Year's Eve dinner at €30 less than the adult price. Duna Cruises recommends its midnight Prosecco programme for over-18s only, and Silverline's drinks cruise serves alcohol only to guests aged 18 and over. For a family, the dinner cruise is the one that covers midnight, and the early 20:00 start helps. Legenda's early-evening sightseeing boats also take children, free under 10.
