Le Petit Chef Budapest: The 3D Dinner Show at CHESS, Prices, Menu and Booking
On this page
At the end of the night at CHESS Restaurant, every guest gets a vote: which of four miniature chefs, projected in 3D straight onto your plate, deserves the golden chef’s hat? That is Le Petit Chef & Friends, the dinner show that turns a four-course meal in the Queen’s Court Hotel at Dob utca 63 into a small animated cooking contest.
You watch a little French chef and his rivals from Spain, Italy and Japan come to life on your plate, one country per course, while the real dishes follow: a Serrano ham “ikebana”, truffle cannelloni, a beef tenderloin, then a matcha and white chocolate mousse. It fills an evening on its own, with a 6 pm start that leaves the night free for a drink in the Jewish Quarter afterward. It suits families with children of 6 and up, couples marking a birthday, and anyone who has run out of goulash ideas. One catch: most shows are narrated in Hungarian, so book a date the calendar marks as an English Show.
The Classic menu costs 35,900 HUF (about $110) per person including service, and most evenings start at 18:00.

What the show actually is
Le Petit Chef is a projection-mapping act: the animation is projected in 3D straight onto your plate, so the cartoon cook appears to work right there in front of you. The Budapest version is called Le Petit Chef & Friends. The French original competes with three friends from Spain, Italy and Japan for a golden chef’s hat, one country per course.
The evening follows the same four steps every time. You are seated and welcomed, the show opens in Spain with the starter, the main course takes you through Italy and France, and dessert lands in Japan. At the end everyone votes, and the winner is revealed. The animation follows the Classic menu, so the pictures will not match your plate exactly if you order something else.
The room is the hotel’s CHESS restaurant, open since 2017, with a French-inspired interior of velvet, wood and marble in green and blue tones. Each sitting has room for about 28 guests, and the operator warns that the technical setup sometimes means sharing a table with other guests.

Check which menu your date carries when you book.
Dietary needs: there is no vegan menu. Gluten-free, lactose-free and fish-free versions are possible if you say so when booking, and every dish on the menu page lists its allergens by number.
Prices are in HUF, which is what you pay when you book online. Converted at 1 USD = 325 HUF, the ECB rate on 20 October 2026. Rates move, so treat the dollar figures as indicative.

Show times and English-language evenings
In October, November and December 2026 the booking calendar lists shows on two to four evenings a week, most often Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with some Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The usual start is 18:00. On several Saturdays there are two sittings instead, at 17:30 and 20:30: 31 October, 14 and 21 November, and 5, 12, 19 and 26 December.
Language is the detail to get right. Shows are performed in Hungarian unless the calendar says otherwise. The operator says the second Tuesday and the last Sunday of each month are in English, and that from November the Sunday 18:00 shows switch to English. In the calendar for the rest of 2026, the dates flagged English Show are 8 and 29 November and 6 and 20 December.
Plan on 1.5 to 2 hours at the table, and arrive at least 30 minutes before the start. Latecomers are let in, but only at a suitable moment.

How to book, and the cancellation rules
Booking runs through the Book Now button on the Le Petit Chef Budapest page, which opens a calendar where you pick the number of guests, the date and the sitting, then the menus and any add-on. Gift cards are sold on the same site.
Read the cancellation terms before you pay. The deposit and the price of the menus and add-ons are non-refundable. What you can do is change or reschedule the booking up to 48 hours before the original date, by writing to info@chessbudapest.hu or calling +36 70 425 8264.
A few house rules round it off: the dress code is smart casual (no shorts, sleeveless shirts or flip-flops), the restaurant has a barrier-free route for wheelchair users, and guests can use the hotel’s underground garage for an extra fee.

Is Le Petit Chef good for kids?
For children from about 6, yes, and that is the age the operator recommends. The kids menu swaps the cannelloni and steak for lasagne and a mini burger, while the animation is the same for everyone. For younger children, a two-hour seated dinner that starts at 18:00 is a long ask. Other dinner shows in Budapest
If a projected chef is not quite your kind of evening, there are two other ways to make dinner the entertainment. A dinner cruise on the Danube pairs a seated meal with live music and the lit-up Parliament gliding past; our Danube river cruise guide compares the options and prices. For a theme instead of a screen, our guide to unique restaurants in Budapest covers a medieval knights’ restaurant, a magic-themed castle and a book-inspired tasting menu.
The verdict
The vote for the golden chef’s hat is the moment the whole evening builds toward, and it lands best when the children at the table are old enough to argue about it. Book an English Show date, arrive half an hour early, and go for the Classic menu, since that is the one the animation was made for.
