Is Velence Resort & Spa worth the trip?

Yes, especially for families who want warm pools, a lakeside setting and an easy direct train from Budapest. The children’s pools and playground give younger swimmers plenty to do, while the upstairs thermal pool and sauna area offer adults a calmer change of pace.

Ticket prices and peak-season rules

The current price list has applied since 31 August 2026, until revoked. Monday-to-Thursday tickets are lower outside designated peak periods.

The next peak periods are 23 October-1 November 2026 and 24 December 2026-3 January 2027. During them, the Friday-to-Sunday prices apply every day.

Check day-guest capacity before leaving

The operator limits the bath and lake beach to 200 day guests in addition to hotel guests. When that capacity is reached, further outside admission is restricted. Before a busy-day trip, call the spa reception on +36 22 589 971 to check whether day tickets are available.

Getting There Without a Car

The station is the good news. Velencefürdő is a request-halt-sized stop a couple of hundred meters from the resort gate, and the hourly Z30 zone train between Budapest-Déli and Székesfehérvár stops there, along with Velence, Gárdony, Agárd and Dinnyés. The other hourly service on this corridor, the faster G43 from Kőbánya-Kispest, does not stop at Velencefürdő at all. It calls at Velence, Gárdony and Agárd, so if you take it you land in the town centre and walk considerably further (MÁV’s own Lake Velence line summary).

Check the timetable the morning you travel rather than trusting a screenshot. The Déli körvasút rebuild has trains running mostly on a single track between Budapest-Kelenföld and Ferencváros into 2027, and the Székesfehérvár line is one of those affected, so departure stations and stopping patterns on this route have already shifted more than once this year. By car it is the M7 towards Balaton, off at Velence, and you will want a valid motorway vignette. There is parking at the resort.

What You Actually Get For The Ticket

Ground floor, all year: an indoor adventure pool at 30-32°C and 90-120 cm deep, with the usual water mushroom, neck showers and bubble benches, and in decent weather you can swim straight out into the large outdoor pool. Two children’s pools at 32-34°C, one 30 cm deep with a seal, a duck and a small slide for the under-3s, one 60 cm deep with a tipping bucket and a water hedgehog for roughly 4 to 8. A 25-meter outdoor training pool at 24-28°C. A ground-floor gyógyvíz pool at 36°C, 100 cm deep. A Finnish sauna and a plunge pool. The grassy lakeside beach, a playground built to EU standards, and a watersports hire point where you can take out a pedalo or a SUP.

Upstairs, and this is the part worth the trip: a jacuzzi at 34-36°C looking out over the lake, and a second medicinal pool at 36°C, 100-125 cm deep, with the same view.

Learn one word before you go: gyógyvíz (roughly “dyohdy-veez”), medicinal water. It is what the signs on those two pools say, and it is a legally defined category in Hungary rather than marketing.

Planning to swim in the lake? The spa pools and lake beach have separate operating and water-quality conditions. The published lake-water sample from 24 July 2026 was unsatisfactory. Before lake swimming, confirm the current authorization with the operator and check posted notices.

The Water, And What The Spa Claims About It

The spa describes its medicinal water as high in calcium, magnesium and hydrogen carbonate, and says that composition makes it anti-inflammatory and useful against circulation problems; that its sodium content suits it to gynecological conditions; and that its high chloride content raises the body’s resistance. It also publishes a list of indications, mostly degenerative spine and joint conditions and post-operative rehabilitation, and a matching list of contraindications including skin conditions, hyperthyroidism, malignancies, heart problems, high-risk pregnancy, acute inflammation and fever.

If you have a condition on either of those lists, that is a conversation with your own doctor, not with a travel site.

The Sauna Park, 14 And Over

The upstairs sauna park offers several heat levels and ways to cool down. Finnish saunas at 80-90°C, a steam room at 43-48°C, a combined bio sauna with light therapy at 70-80°C, two infrared cabins at 40-60°C, a salt chamber, a Kneipp walking pool, an ice well, a 16°C plunge pool one meter deep, the lake-panorama jacuzzi and the second medicinal pool.

Sauna infusions cost an extra 1,000 HUF each and run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Check the session schedule at the wellness reception before choosing your time.

Guests must be at least 14 to enter the sauna park. With younger children, arrange for an adult to stay with them while another uses the saunas.

Plan your pool day

Choose a full-day ticket if you want children’s pools, lunch and time upstairs without watching the clock. The 16:00 ticket suits a shorter afternoon visit, with up to four hours before closing. Check day-guest availability before setting off, especially if the bath is the only reason for your journey.

Pack a payment card, your own towel and sandals. Outside food, drinks and coolers are not allowed in the bath or beach area, so leave time and money for a meal on site. With children under 14, agree how the adults will take turns in the upstairs sauna park; the operator also advises against the ground-floor medicinal pool for this age group. Start with the shallow children’s pools, then decide whether the group wants more swimming or a break.

For a cooler-weather visit, build the day around the indoor pools and sauna. Outdoor pools depend on the season and weather. Swimming lessons can also occupy part of a pool on Monday through Thursday afternoons; ask which areas are available when you arrive.

Two places to explore around the lake

For a view of the lake from above, choose the Bence-hegy lookout. It stands on the hills north of the water, so plan transport there separately from the short station-to-spa walk. A clear morning followed by the 16:00 spa ticket makes a manageable combination.

For a literary stop, the Gárdonyi Géza Memorial House in Agárd introduces the writer in his birthplace. It has a seasonal visiting calendar; check it before adding the separate trip to Agárd. Pick one of these outings for a mixed day, or give the pools the whole day with young children.

The verdict

Velence is a strong family day trip when you want warm water, a lake and a playground without renting a car. In peak season, call ahead about the 200-person day-guest limit; at other times, Monday to Thursday prices and the 16:00 ticket can make a shorter visit good value.

Come for a modern lakeside spa with useful children’s facilities and a quieter upstairs thermal pool. If historic architecture matters most, keep that for a separate Budapest bath day.
