Bonnie Goulash & Langosh Bar Budapest: Goulash, Lángos and Breakfast on Ferenciek tere
On this page
Comic strip speech bubbles still sit on the windows at Ferenciek tere 5, left over from the address’s earlier life, and behind them a kitchen opens at seven in the morning and serves goulash and lángos until midnight. Bonnie is still in the name: today the restaurant trades as Traditional Goulash & Langosh Bar by Bonnie, one of seven kitchens run by the Goulash & Langosh Bar family in downtown Budapest.
Come here for the two dishes in the name: a bowl of beef goulash, a lángos piled with sour cream and Trappist cheese, then the family’s own Bribacsa soup or Briboka paprikash if you are hungry for more. The early start is the other reason: this is one of only two of the family’s kitchens that serve a Hungarian breakfast, bundás kenyér or savory French toast, from 7:00. It sits on one of the busiest squares in District V, right on metro M3 and a short walk from Elisabeth Bridge, so it fits between the river and Váci utca on any day of sightseeing. A 15% service charge is added to every bill.

From Bonnie to Traditional Goulash & Langosh Bar
Bonnie is the older name at this address: as Bonnie Restro, it was a place for morning coffee and breakfast. The restaurant’s own page explains the windows: the address once told its stories in comic strips, and the speech bubbles stayed on the glass. Now the windows announce the opening hours and the family’s dishes instead.
Today Bonnie is part of the Goulash & Langosh Bar family, whose site lists it as Traditional Goulash & Langosh Bar by Bonnie. The old web address, bonnie-goulashandlangoshbar.hu, forwards to the restaurant’s page on that site. The operating company, Netpromotion Invest Kft., also owns the trademarks on Bribacsa and Briboka, the family’s two house dishes.
One building, two businesses: Ibolya Espresso, the retro café and bar, is also at Ferenciek tere 5. It is a separate place with its own menu, covered in our guide to communist and Soviet-themed bars.

What to order, and what it costs
Start where the name does. The beef goulash soup is the classic Hungarian version, and the sour cream and Trappist cheese lángos is the deep-fried flatbread with its classic topping. Share both if you are two, and add a slice of Lipóti sourdough with the soup.
The menu’s own signatures are Bribacsa and Briboka. Bribacsa is the house goulash style soup, with red paprika, galuska (small Hungarian dumplings), peas, carrot, parsley root, kohlrabi and celery. Briboka is the house paprikash, served with paprika sour cream and galuska. Both are registered trademarks of the operating company, so you will only find them at the family’s kitchens. For a first taste, the family suggests the beef version of each.
| Dish | Price |
|---|---|
| Beef goulash soup | 6,990 HUF (about $21) |
| Goulash soup, vegetarian | 5,490 HUF (about $17) |
| Borcsa beef goulash, with sour cream | 7,990 HUF (about $24) |
| Red pepper chicken soup | 5,990 HUF (about $18) |
| Beef Bribacsa soup | 9,990 HUF (about $30) |
| Beef Briboka paprikash, specialty (hot and spicy version 13,990 HUF) | 12,990 HUF (about $39) |
| Traditional beef paprikash with galuska | 9,990 HUF (about $30) |
| Fresh lecsó, plain | 4,690 HUF (about $14) |
| Grandma’s schnitzel (side not included) | 7,990 HUF (about $24) |
| Plain lángos with garlic | 3,990 HUF (about $12) |
| Sour cream and Trappist cheese lángos | 5,490 HUF (about $17) |
| Beef paprikash lángos | 7,990 HUF (about $24) |

| Traditional pancake, apricot or blueberry jam | 3,390 HUF (about $10) |
| Lipóti sourdough bread, with soup | 1,290 HUF (about $4) |
Lángos comes in more than 20 versions here, from plain with garlic to bolognese, gyros and truffle paprika cheese. For dessert, somlói galuska, the Hungarian sponge, chocolate and cream trifle, is the traditional pick, and lángos also turns up sweet, with blueberry or apricot jam.
A 15% service charge is added to the bill, so check the total before adding a tip on the card terminal. A beef goulash and a classic lángos come to 14,352 HUF (about $43) with service. The menu marks vegetarian dishes, among them the vegetarian goulash, the mushroom and vegetable Bribacsa, the mushroom paprikash and lecsó. Nothing is marked vegan, and the kitchen handles gluten, dairy and other allergens, so mention any serious allergy when you order.
Prices are in HUF, which is what you pay on the bill. Converted at 1 USD = 330 HUF, the ECB rate on 28 October 2026. Rates move, so treat the dollar figures as indicative.

Breakfast from seven
Ferenciek tere 5 is one of only two family kitchens that serve breakfast from 7:00. The breakfast menu is all bundás kenyér, bread dipped in egg and fried golden, which Hungarians eat savory rather than with syrup. You can ask for it well toasted or softer.

| With garlic | 2,690 HUF (about $8) |

| Hungarian style, with sausages, ham, red paprika sauce and ragout | 4,990 HUF (about $15) |

Booking, groups and the bill
You can simply walk in and sit down. To be sure of a table, book online through the booking page or call +36 70 336 0689. Large groups are the restaurant’s strong suit: up to 100 people can sit together, and a big party should book in advance, online or by phone.
Cards are accepted, and pets are welcome. The kitchen is open until midnight every night, so it also works for a late dinner after an evening on the river.

Which Goulash & Langosh Bar is which
The Goulash & Langosh Bar family lists seven kitchens, all in District V, and says that an address missing from its list is not one of theirs. Three of them sit within a few minutes of each other near Elisabeth Bridge, and the names overlap:
| Sign over the door | Address | Beef goulash soup | Sour cream and cheese lángos |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goulash & Langosh Bar, the original (since spring 2022) | Duna utca 3 | 5,990 HUF | 4,990 HUF |
| Mama Paprika | Duna utca 1 | 6,990 HUF | 5,490 HUF |
| Traditional Goulash & Langosh Bar by Bonnie | Ferenciek tere 5 | 6,990 HUF | 5,490 HUF |
All three add a 15% service charge and serve Bribacsa and Briboka. The kitchen at Duna utca 1 is the one we cover in our guide to Danube Goulash & Langosh Bar: its old address, danube-goulashandlangoshbar.hu, now forwards to the Mama Paprika page. The other family addresses are Mama’s & Papa’s and Old Mama on Vörösmarty tér, Bazilika on Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út and Terv Presszó on Nádor utca.

Who it suits
It suits first-time visitors who want goulash and lángos without leaving the center, early risers who want a Hungarian breakfast before the sights open, late diners who need a kitchen open until midnight, and groups that want to sit at one table. Vegetarians have a real choice; vegans should ask before ordering.

The verdict
The speech bubbles on the glass still tell you most of what you need: open at seven, open until midnight, goulash and lángos inside. Come for breakfast bundás kenyér or a late bowl of beef goulash on your way back from the river, and order the classic lángos to share.
