Lepence Spa Visegrád: Thermal Pools, Tickets and a Castle Day Trip (2026)

Lepence Spa is the thermal wellness center of Thermal Hotel Visegrád, at Lepence völgy 2 in the Danube Bend, and it is open to day visitors from 8:00 to 21:00. A weekday ticket costs 8,500 HUF for adults, 11,500 HUF at weekends, and the seven pools run on the valley’s own 39.5°C spring.
It makes a lovely day out from Budapest: the Citadel in the morning, hot water in the afternoon, and the river all the way there and back.

Residents of the listed Danube Bend towns, Visegrád and Szentendre among them, pay less with a Hungarian address card.

The Pools and Saunas
Nearly 3,000 m² and seven pools, fed by a spring that rises 39.5°C warm from 1,302 meters down, a few meters from the hotel. The water is rich in calcium, magnesium and hydrogen carbonate, and the hotel’s wellness section has just come through a renovation: every pool has been renewed, there are more loungers, and the changing and shower blocks are new.
The pools, with the operator’s own temperatures and sizes:
- Experience pools, indoor and outdoor, 30-33°C, 270.5 m² between them. The main body of water, open all year.
- Thermal pool 1, 36-38°C, 22 m². The hot one.
- Thermal pool 2, 34-36°C, 39 m², under the dome. Larger and a touch gentler.
- Outdoor swimming pool, 25-27°C, 153 m². Heated, and cool enough for real lengths.
- Children’s pool, 30-33°C, 11 m², renewed this summer.
- Acapulco pool, 29-32°C, 258 m². The summer pool with its sun terrace, which was open until 30 September.
During the final stage of the renovation, the sauna world offers the renewed Visegrád sauna, a natural sauna and a steam cabin, with a sauna master leading the infusion sessions. Massages and treatments carry on as usual, and the wellness reception sits temporarily in the hotel lobby next to the main desk. For a sunny day you can rent a canopy daybed for 10,000 HUF, 7:00 to 20:00.
Call Ahead, Then Relax
Lepence Spa is a hotel spa first, and it says so kindly and clearly: before arriving, check the current occupancy, because the bath area can close to outside guests during the day when the hotel is full. Plan your arrival around the cash desk, which sells tickets to day visitors from 8:00 to 19:30 with two short pauses, 11:30 to 12:00 and 16:30 to 16:40. Weekdays are the cheaper days.
Two Places Called Lepence
The name confuses people, so here is the short version. In 1977 the open-air Lepence strand opened in the valley, its pools terraced into the hillside above the Danube. It closed in 2007 and is fenced off today, so it is not something to visit.
The Lepence Spa that you can enjoy today is the wellness center of Thermal Hotel Visegrád in the same valley, fed by the hotel’s own 1,302-meter well, sunk in 1973. When a booking site or a friend says “Lepence Spa”, this is the place they mean.
The Castle Half of the Day
The Citadel (Fellegvár) is the other reason to come to Visegrád. King Béla IV and Queen Maria Laskarina built the double castle system in the 1250s, and the view from the top, the Danube folding around Szentendre Island, is one of the finest in Hungary.

An adult ticket is 2,800 HUF (about $8.5), and students and pensioners with a valid card pay 1,400 HUF (about $4.5).

The way up from town is a marked forest path, a proper climb with a big reward at the top. If you would rather ride up, ask in town whether a bus is running up the hill on your day.
Getting There Without a Car
Visegrád is reachable from Budapest by public transport. Search your connection to “Visegrád” on the national timetable site menetrendek.hu on the day you travel, and check the evening return there too.
Szentendre lies on the way along the river and makes a lovely second stop, and the rest of our day trips beyond Budapest sit within the same couple of hours.
How to Shape the Day
Morning castle, afternoon water. The light on the Danube Bend is behind you before noon, the forest path is kinder before a long soak, and the spa stays open until 21:00, so the evening is yours.
A relaxed plan: an early start from Budapest, the Citadel and lunch in town, then the spa for the afternoon, with a phone call to the pool desk before you set off.
Who Will Love It
Couples and friends who want castle and thermal water in one day. Few places this close to Budapest give you both.
Families. Babies under 2 go free, there are child, junior and family tickets, and the children’s pool has just been renewed.
Winter bathers. The experience pools, the thermal pools and the heated outdoor swimming pool run all year, and steam rising off warm water in a cold valley is a fine sight.

Can you do Visegrád Citadel and the spa in one day?
