New Restaurants in Budapest: October 2026
On this page
Four places that opened recently are worth your time in Budapest this October. Book KOHO on Horváth Mihály tér for dinner, take coffee at Serene or Padre Pio, and start the day at Mizu, which serves brunch from 7:00.
The list is rebuilt at the start of every month. Places drop off once they are no longer new, and last month’s edition stays online under Previous months at the bottom of this page.
KOHO, Horváth Mihály tér
KOHO is a design-led dining room on Horváth Mihály tér in the Palace Quarter, built around technique-led cooking, a curated wine list, cocktails and an analogue sound system. Tóth József “Azsi” runs the kitchen as executive chef.
Come for the plates: trout sashimi with tomato, peach and verbena, ginger-roasted cauliflower with brown butter and Champagne vinegar, lamb rump with corn pudding. A starter, a main and a dessert make a full dinner. The catch is the calendar, since it is closed on Monday and Tuesday, and a 10% service charge goes on every bill.
Insider tip: the tasting menu, A Taste of KOHO, costs 22,990 HUF, and you can swap the cauliflower for the lamb for 1,590 HUF more.
- Address: Horváth Mihály tér 14, District VIII (Palace Quarter)
- Hours: Wed 8:30-21:00, Thu 8:30-22:00, Fri-Sat 8:30-23:00, Sun 8:30-17:00, Mon-Tue closed
- Dishes: 1,990-7,890 HUF ($6-$25)
- Tasting menu: 22,990 HUF ($72), plus the 10% service charge

Serene Specialty Coffee, József körút
Serene is a specialty coffee bar on the Grand Boulevard in District VIII, and its twist is Turkish coffee brewed in hot sand, served next to the usual espresso drinks and a matcha made with real fruit.
It sits near Blaha Lujza tér, at the edge of the Palace Quarter, and opens every day from morning to early evening. Its website lists no drink prices, so expect to read them off the board when you order.
Insider tip: the Turkish coffee blends are also sold by the bag, so the flavour you liked can come home with you.
- Address: József körút 14, District VIII
- Hours: Daily 9:00-19:00

Padre Pio Café, Cédrus utca
Padre Pio is a neighbourhood café and bakery up in District XII, made for an unhurried coffee, a fresh pastry or a cold lemonade, with a small programme of community events.
It suits you if you are already out in the Buda hills, not as a trip in its own right. The hours are short: it closes at 17:00 on weekdays, 14:00 on Saturday and 13:00 on Sunday, and stays shut on Monday.
Insider tip: the form on its website takes pastry orders for the next day, Tuesday to Friday, so your favourite is waiting when you arrive.
- Address: Cédrus utca 2, District XII
- Hours: Tue-Fri 7:30-17:00, Sat 9:00-14:00, Sun 9:00-13:00, Mon closed

Mizu Brunch & Coffee, Fáy utca
Mizu serves brunch all day, every day, from 7:00: eggs Benedict on a butter croissant, avocado bowls, burrata, açai bowls and waffles, plus ciabatta sandwiches.
It is a good find if you are staying in District XIII, and the 7:00 start suits early risers. Fáy utca is a residential street away from the sights, so it is not worth a special trip.
Insider tip: the seasonal cream soup (1,990 HUF) and the sandwiches (2,490-3,390 HUF) are the cheap way in.
- Address: Fáy utca 75, District XIII
- Hours: Daily 7:00-19:00
- Brunch plates: 4,490-4,690 HUF ($14-$15)
- Sandwiches: 2,490-3,390 HUF ($8-$11)
- Seasonal cream soup: 1,990 HUF ($6)
